Andrew Sisk finds melody like most people assemble rooms. Does this drum machine loop fit here or should we move it to that corner? What about these synths? Do these harmonies work as an accent? Thanks largely to Sisk’s comforting voice and uncanny ability to find the perfect sentence, he and Miranda combine a collection of items that contrast the untrained ear to fill a space with warmth and beauty.

Sisk has offered up records in endless fashions; the ukulele driven pop of Share and the guitar-driven hooks he crafts under his birth name, but for me the the delightful blend of Gainsbourg pop with slowcore arrangements under the Coco et Co. moniker is the most enjoyable.

Fatherhood has slowed the duo’s output, but with the release of “Mount Summer”, you sense that the new experiences Sisk and Miranda are going through has sparked a new source of creativity and inspiration. Mount Summer is hooky without needing hard edges. The soft focus and finish is comforting, even as the guitar dances and distorts right in front of you. This might be the best dollar you spend today… well, unless the Ultramagnetic MCs put their NBA rap on iTunes without me knowing.
